Season 5Edit

Tao is an expert with explosives and teaches the other Chinese workers how to dynamite the tunnel. Here he and Fong meet Cullen Bohannon, as Toa is one of the few Chinese workers who can speak English as well and translate for Cullen.

Tao is put in charge of the payroll for the Chinese workers by Bohannon after the he discovers that Chang has been skimming the pay. Toa helps to end the worker strike orchestrated by Chang, who claimed to want higher wages for the workers, but really wanted a stake in the railroad, by helping Cullen to make a deal with Huntington to pay to ship the deceased Chinese workers back to China, as their custom dictates that they must rest in China or forever wander.

This enrages Chang. As Toa is also given responsibility of hiring new workers and managing the payroll by Cullen, Chang is further enraged. Chang later arranges to have Tao murdered by a white salesman during celebrations for the Heavenly Empress Festival.
