Background information[]

Psalms' mother named her son after a particular Psalm in the Bible. ("Searchers") Psalms was once a slave and was worked very hard by his master. He bears many scars from whippings on his back.

Season 1[]

He challenged Elam Ferguson for volunteering the Freedman crew to do double work. That night, he warned Elam not to enter the cathouse. ("A New Birth of Freedom")

After Gregory Toole boasted about his encounter with Eva and how the only thing she wouldn't sleep with was a black man, he restrained Elam from attacking Toole. ("Jamais Je Ne T'oublierai")

During the fight between Elam and Cullen Bohannon, he was paid by Sean McGinnes to cover Elam's hands with pepper. ("Bread and Circuses")

Season 3[]

Psalms fears that Declan Toole, Gregory Toole's brother, has abducted Eva's daughter and interrogates Declan  (through torture) in the pig car, threatening to kill him. When the baby is found safe and well, Psalms releases Declan. ("Searchers")
