Barlow is from Omaha, Nebraska. His father taught him how to brew coffee, though Barlow prefers to brew it with a clean sock instead of a dirty one.
Season 3[]

Barlow took the job of Chief of Railroad Police with Elam Ferguson as his deputy. He is very jovial and kind to Elam, despite the a latter's sour attitude. Barlow is shot in the gut when he attempts to inform the Hatchs, a family of Mormons residing in the path of the railroad, that they must move. It is never clear who shoots Barlow. Barlow is brought back to Hell on Wheels. Eva ascertains his wounds. They are too grave to heal. Barlow requests to hold Eva's baby and dies a few moments after holding her.
