Buckton Prescott is a former Union Army Corporal, who was accused of murdering Mary Bohannon.
Biography[]
Background information[]
Prescott had at least one brother, Jasper Prescott, who confronted Bohannon in Hell on Wheels. He served with Captain Daniel Johnson, Lieutenant Tanner, Sergeant Frank Harper, and Private Wustner in the American Civil War.
Sometime before the end of the war, Prescott and his unit came upon Cullen Bohannon's tobacco farm in Meridian, Mississippi. They burned the house and the barn, killing Bohannon's son, who was hiding in the hay loft. They also most likely raped Mary Bohannon, though this has never been overtly stated (Bohannon seemed to believe something traumatic happened to her that caused her to take her own life). One of the men, the sergeant, according to Johnson, strangled Mary and hung her from the porch. ("Pilot")
Season 1[]
- Main article: Season 1
Prescott walks into a Washington D.C. Church. In the confessional, he admits to committing war crimes while serving with General William Sherman on his march through Georgia. Cullen Bohannon, posing as a priest, on the other side of the divider urges soldier to confess further details. When the former soldier balks Cullen asks him about what happened in Meridian, Mississippi and then proceeds to shoot him in the confession booth. ("Pilot")
